This polytechnic was established in 1991 with only 40 students in the 1st year classes of diploma -in- engineering in Electrical technology. There is only one Department when this polytechnic journey began, But presently it has five engineering departments and provides the best technical education to the student.

There is an institute owned hostel in this polytechnic. The hostel is for the male and female students both. The students can stay in these hostels at a low cost.

All the government polytechnic has been preserved some quotas. The female quota is 20%, SSC (vocational) 15%, minor ethnic group quota 2%, freedom fighter 5%, special needs student quota 5%, and 2% for children of officials or employees who are working in Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment. According to diploma engineering admission circular 2019, 53% of students will be admitted to polytechnic diploma engineering by merit, and 47% of students will be admitted to government quota.
Through at the beginning of the diploma in engineering, course duration was 3 years but presently this course duration is 4 years. The 4 years are defined into eight semesters.
There is two shift in this institute. The first shift class start from 08:00 AM and the second shift class starts from 01:30 PM.
Many of students from each semester and each shift has got some TK by the regard of an internal scholarship, who have made a good result.
